Lotus’s Malaysia and HDC working together to raise the marketability of Malaysian made halal products through “Make Halal Your First Choice” Campaign

Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus’s Malaysia) together with Halal Development Corporation (HDC) collaborate to raise the marketability of Malaysian made Halal products in Make Halal Your First Choice campaign, a programme under the 2022 Budget Initiative.

Launching the campaign at Lotus’s Ampang today was Yang Berhormat Dato’ Rosol bin Wahid, Deputy Minister of Malaysia Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs accompanied by Hairol Ariffein Sahari Chief Executive Officer of Halal Development Corporation and Kenneth Chuah, President of Lotus’s Malaysia.

The Make Halal Your First Choice campaign seeks to gain consumer interest and trust for quality and affordable local and Halal certified products manufactured by homegrown Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). Throughout April to July 2022, Lotus’s is featuring a total of 389 lines of food and non-food grocery items from 71 of its partnering SMEs in all 64 Lotus’s stores nationwide.

“Halal is becoming more than just a religious statement but also a statement of quality. In this dynamic retail environment, that heavily depends on consumer preference, quality and affordability have become key factors that influence their purchases”, said Kenneth Chuah, President of Lotus’s Malaysia. “While retailers like Lotus’s continue to be a platform for SMEs to advance their businesses, it is also important that local producers equip themselves with the right skills and capability to produce quality and competitively priced products to help them rebuild and sustain their businesses after the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“We hope this campaign will attract SMEs to make Halal as a value proposition or added value to their respective business activities. For consumers, we hope that this campaign will foster a Halal first mindset in this country, to make Halal products a top choice in their daily lives”, added Hairol Ariffein Sahari, Chief Executive Officer of Halal Development Corporation.

At the launch, Lotus’s also stated that they have the confidence in the capabilities and qualities of local SME producers as 90 per cent of its three thousand Lotus’s Own Brand products are sourced and manufactured locally. Its house brand items like food products and oral care are fully Halal certified.

The company also understands its responsibility in ensuring that local SMEs which are an important pillar of economic growth can grow and sustain. Beyond listing SME products in all its stores, Lotus’s also works closely with them in product development, pricing & marketing strategies, and product packaging improvements.

In support to the campaign, Lotus’s conducted initiatives like product offers, in-store communications, promotions in media platforms and product samplings to encourage customers to shop at their outlets or on Lotus’s online for the many ranges of Halal products.
